We can tell we are learning a lot during this training. We have never been people to hold conversations with others on our flights. We say hi and that's about it. We are quick to read or go to sleep. Our flight back to the U.S. for Mammaw's funeral and the flight back to Vancouver were different, though. This time we talked to people.
Since we had to buy last minute tickets, we sat across the aisle from each other. This meant we both had people beside us to talk to. On the flight down to the U.S., I (Bethany) sat by a Muslim guy and on the other side of him was a Californian woman reading Redeeming Love. I talked to both of them for half of the flight and was able to share the Bible story behind the book.
On the flight back, I (Bethany) sat by Sa, a guy from New Orleans who converted to Islam 11 years ago. We talked the entire flight about similarities and differences between Christianity and Islam. I was able to clear up a lot of misconceptions about the Bible for him. He met Jonathan, and they made plans to meet for coffee a few days later to talk more. Jonathan was able to fully share with him and they dialoged for a couple of hours when they met. Sa wants to meet Jonathan again soon to continue talking.
Pray for us to always have our eyes open to see where God is at work, so we don't miss opportunities like these. Help us remember to take time to talk to people instead of putting in headphones or using being tired as an excuse.
