University events

We've had a busy month at the university where I attend. Not only had I been cramming for my national B2 exam, preparing for my final presentation and written final for my B2 course at the university, but we've been busy doing ministry things as well.

To follow-up from handing out Bibles and doing spiritual surveys, we decided to host a few events. Agape has 3 students from California visiting for a cultural exchange who are able to help us, so we've been making the most of having the extra hands. We stapled muffin packets and pieces of chocolate to invites to a movie event. We handed out 2,000 invites with goodies.

We hosted 4 days of our movie event. We met in a classroom at the university and showed 2 short films (5-10 minutes). After each we had some discussion questions about the film and spirituality. Of course we drank lots of coffee as well. We can't host an event in Portugal without coffee! We had about 20 students show up. None of which had any connections to us beforehand. They received an invite and met the volunteers working with us and came.

Since then we've been able to connect with these students outside of the movie event. One started coming to my English group on campus. One guy asked a couple of the guys if he could read the Bible with them after the movie event. We've hosted 2 game days on the past Friday afternoons, and several have come to that. We've had dinners in our friends' home--15 people came to the last one. Today, our volunteers and some of J's seminary students, who are helping us with these events, met up with some of the students at the beach.

Pray that we can stay connected to these students over the summer and that we can get a group started at the university in the fall. Our prayer is to start a Bible discovery group among university students that could eventually become a church or join with other Bible discovery groups to become a church.
