Freedom Day in Portugal

April 25 is a national holiday in Portugal. It commemorates the Carnation Revolution--when Portugal overthrew the dictatorship in 1974 and became free. They withdrew from their colonies in Africa and had wider freedoms--religious freedoms, freedoms for the Press, and much more.

We're thankful for Portugal's freedoms. It allows us to be here easily. Whatever you're doing today, take a moment and thank God for Portugal's freedoms now and for us to be able to come. For all of my U.S. friends, take a moment and thank God for the freedoms you have too. Not every country has those freedoms, and some like Portugal, don't have to look too far back to remember the days when they didn't have them.
